PRODUCT IDENTIFICATION

DENTIFICATION LABEL: trade name: BRASS NANOPOWDER; chemical name: copper-zinc alloy nanopowder; chemical formula: CuZn. The nanopowder is produced by the electric explosion of wire method in argon atmosphere and packed in glass ampoules in inert atmosphere.

CHEMICAL COMPOSITION

The material contains approx. 60% of copper and 40% of zinc. Adsorbed gases (air, argon, carbon oxide) were not defined. In contact with air the content of active metal decreases to 85-90 %.

PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL PROPERTIES

Brass powder, dark-brown in color. Average particle size is 50-80 nanometers. Single particles are 70-200 nanometers in size and form microagglomerates. Packed density is approx. 3 g/cm³. Melting temperature in inert atmosphere is 900°С. Can ignite after a short-term contact (up to 30 s) with a low-cal source (e.g. a burning match). Brass powder can be applied in catalysis and materials science.

DANGER

Brass powder is a combustible metallic powder which can give free flame.

HEALTH HAZARD

Brass powder is an odious dust which can have a general toxic effect and cause respiratory apparatus irritation. Maximum allowed daily average concentration is 0.22 mg/m³. Continuous contact can cause chronic diseases of respiratory organs, kidney and liver diseases. Neutral to environment, does not require any special precautions.

SAFE HANDLING

Use protection means similar to those used for handling dust. Use respirators. The possibility of contact with open flame must be eliminated.
